The Peace Fountain, Greg Wyatt, 1985
Childhood nostalgia + Wikipedia = learning something new every day! I seem to be unraveling mysterious Upper West Side sculptures lately, and this one in particular was a struggle to explain to others from memory (‘it’s, uh, this round, smiling face…with uh, a severed head… yeah… wings and things…animals all over the place…’). Turns out it’s the battle between Archangel Michael and Satan, good and evil, and all opposing forces. Pretty neat.
Bellerophon Taming Pegasus, Jacques Lipchitz, 1966-77
Ah, so that’s what the writhing sculpture in front of the Columbia Law School was this entire time. So many sleepless nights of my childhood wondering what what on earth it was all about…

Brian Dettmer. Made entirely from books: nothing added, only subtracted.
I’m in love! More here: they are ALL worth looking at!
